My created house

This is my first design for a house  I have a couple of good points about this and a couple of bad points about this house.

I like how I used the editable meshes to be able to make the roof on the box and make it stick out a little bit and I like how I used the taper tool to to make the cylinder more curvy in the middle. The choice of colour works well and is the most brick like colour in 3D max.

However the bad points are that because I wasn't able to finish the design in 45 mins I was not able to change the colour of the roof on the main box and I would have been able to if I had more time and I also had a problem with the garage roof and aligning it to the other roof. Allthough I like the colour for the house I think it is dull and would have looked better with textures.

This is the professonal version of a house.

The professonal version  has more detail than mine on the roof and the walls  which makes the house looks more real and I feel that the windows also look better because to me it looks like there is light reflecting from the two bottom windows. Maybe with more time I would be able to put more detail in to my house.

My first building

This is the final design for a castle that I made using 3d max during a tutorial. I had to make all of the shapes with editable meshes and standard primatives to make the castle and I used the polygon tool and the extrage make the bits on top of the cylinder and used the taper tool make the cylinder curvy to make the towers to more interesting.

My made up character

This is my first design for a character using 3D max and I think that it is ok  however I had a couple of problems when making it. For example when making the axe I had to use a box and wanted to make it look like the metal part was in the middle which I eventually did.
However there is also good points to the character I wanted to make it point at the person playing so it looks like it's body language is saying your next and I have made it look like it look like he is holding the axe which also supports what I was trying to make the character look like which was evil.

Here is a step by step guide to how I made the character:

I made this character by first making a geosphere to make the body and then scaling it to the appropriate size. Then I made a cone and moved it to the right position then pressed shift to copy the cone and moved it to the over side and then mirrored it so it could go on the over side.

I then changed from standard primitives to extended primitives and I choose a capsule  to make one of the arms and again I pressed shift and copied the arm then put it in to place.

After that I had to put the eyes and the mouth on I switched back to standard primitives and made a pyramid and rotated it to the right position and scaled it to the right size then pressed shift and mirrored the copy and rotated it to the right position then copied that and scaled the copy to make it longer for the mouth.

Then I put a box in the arm and then made another box that was flat and placed it on top of the other box I just placed.
This is a example from a professional designer the designer had more time that me to design a character and has had more experience with the program than me and he has probably used the shade tool to make the colour of the skin and the light and shadow effect on the character. I had to use standard and extended primitives to make my charter when the designer for this character could use more complex design techniques.

Unit 66 and 67 robot

this is my first design for a robot and I had to use standard primatives and extended primatives to make the head body and the legs and arms and for the features.

Unit 19 desktop project

The purpose of this task was to look and see what four genres look like and to see what makes a game go in  to a certain genre. The four genres I put in were Horror, Fantasy, Sci-fi and war. I used the Official Xbox 360 Magazine to find all these images.

Horror has things like zombies and should give the player a feeling of being left alone against a horde with a slim chance of surviving. dark colours also give the feeling of tension because the player will not want to go in to the shadows because they will not know what is lurking there.

Sci-fi has things like aliens for the player to interact with and futuristic weaponry for the player to use and space ships with different planets to explore a example of this is Mass Effect.

Fantasy has mythical creatures in this genre and has things that will not happen  in real life and has creatures that do not exist. Fantasy games usually take place in medieval times because game designers can put things like orcs in the game world and it would fit better unlike if the designers put a orc in a sci-fi game it would not fit as well.

war has explosions and people killing each other to win a war a good example of this is Gears of war humanity is trying to defeat the locust to survive this is a epic war. War games will always be liner with the occasional attack .

In my opinion I think that if I could have found more images for war and fantasy I would have had a better collage but other than that I think that it is ok because of  how I have over lapped  the demon creature with fantasy and horror because a demon could be classed as something from horror but at the same time it is created and is something that does not exist or resembles anything that does. I also think that the Sci-fi looks good because it really shows what is usually in Sci-fi story's like aliens, different planets, spaceships and robots and I think that that part of the college really shows the Sci-fi genre. I found war to be a hard genre to find anything to go to it so I found little scenes of characters  shooting at other characters and then moved on to people looking like they were prepared for war but I did not find a lot of them do so I could not put a lot on my collage.

3D models research task

While waiting to do my tutorial I was doing a task to find 3D models. This is Dante from Devil May Cry. The character was designed by Capcom and the game is owned by Capcom. Dante is the main character in Devil May Cry 1, 2,3 and shows in 4 but has a short play time.

This is Dante from devil may cry 1  I like this because the design for Dante is darker and shows that you that you wouldn't want to mess with him it also shows that he has a connection to the dark and that the main theme was Gothic.
This is Dante from DMC2  this character is older now and the design shows that he is more experienced with devil hunting. I like this character because he still maintains the same Gothic look even after the amount of years it is set after the first one.
This Dante from Devil May Cry 3 you can instantly tell that he is younger and more rebellious than in the last two DMC games. I like this character because althought younger Dante still has a gothic look to him but is a lot less serious about his buisness than I DMC 1 and 2.

First lesson

In my first games development lesson I found the lesson interesting and fun and manged to learn the basics of 3D. I just put shapes with others to make more interesting shapes and made it look like some balls were rolling off the ramp.
